BACKGROUND

Over the last 16 years I have gained a wealth of teaching experiences to a variety of age groups and abilities, working as a mentor for various borough’s around London and the South East. I have enjoyed motivating and encouraging young people through teaching music theory, song writing, voice training and various musical instruments to young people with different abilities and backgrounds all are always welcomed. I also facilitate after school activities and workshops across a wide range of interests. I am curently working in three schools in Hainault.

I have had extensive experience in the record industry, this started with recording and releasing my own compositions on my own record label at the age of seventeen. I am a musical all rounder playing keyboards, bass guitar, guitar, drums and also singing / backing vocals.

Composing soundscapes and soundtracks is a main feature in my career writing music for TV, film and Theatre incorporating musicals & plays. Also co-writing many songs.

I am a director of the Song Corporation, a music publishing company with a multi-track recording studio with mastering and CD manufacturing.

STAGE, PRODUCTION AND RECORDING CAREER

As a founder member of the band “Total Contrast” which was formed in the 80’s, coming from a background of Reggae this was a move into Dance / R&B Music. I signed to London Records in 1985 having two albums released with several top forty hits the most popular tracks were “Hit and Run”, “The River” and “Takes A Little Time” which also achieved a No.1 position in the Dance Chart in America.

Then followed writing and producing for many record labels including a trio called “Tongue N Cheek” which was licensed to EMI Records via my own independent label. The group had several top-forty hits, including “Forget Me Knots”, “Tomorrow”, “Nobody Can Love Me” and “Encore.” I also wrote and produced for Toyin Adekale, Janet Kaye, Carroll Thompson and Debbie Allen from Fame.

I have been Musical Director for several TV and theatre shows including the ”291 Club”, Big Life at Theatre Royal Stratford East, Rapping at the Royal for Channel 4, Nights Out at The Empire for Channel 4, Baby Father for BBC2 and Fences starring Lenny Henry at the Ambassador Theatre in the West End.  

The Delroy Murray Band which was created in 1990 supports many major events and artists such as The Four Tops, Janet Kay, Jocelyn Brown Rose Royce Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson, Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis and many other top Jamaican and American acts.
